“In summer we’ll offer a whole bunch of sports camps like lacrosse and field hockey,” says Brian Hames, a recreation specialist at the Willow Glen Community Center. All in all, the new offerings represent a 30 percent increase in the number of classes at the center, which until recently was short on staff to oversee its programs. “Since 2009, we’ve been down at least two full-time positions,” Hames says. “With a new round of hiring, we filled those positions as well as another three-quarter time” job.
