Kahn is just doing the job she was elected to do; advocate for the district schools to achieve a balance of power between charters and public district schools and her comments, as part of the selection procedure, were never out of line. Board members were asked to support or explain their “yes” or “no” vote for each candidate. We were all under scrutiny and open to any and all comments during that portion of the process; a “no” vote would, of course, occur because the board member didn’t agree with something about you.

Kahn never criticized Sherice Youngblood for sending her child to a charter school, but indicated a concern about conflict of interest based on recent negative experiences with the Academy of Alameda board, of which Youngblood is a member, It’s not accurate to accuse Kahn of not upholding the interests of all navy blue satin ballet shoes - full sole or split sole - adult sizes students, Kahn is creating balance by upholding the interests of students who don’t have as many rights under certain laws, For example, Prop, 39 is the law that demands space for charter schools and it does so without any regard to district programs or students, Yes, you read that right — without regard to Alameda Unified School District programs or students, That’s why so many Haight Elementary School parents, students and teachers came out to protest the potential placement of the new Academy of Alameda K-through-5 charter (grades K-through-1) classrooms at their school..

It doesn’t matter to the law that Haight would lose space and programs, but it sure means a lot to the folks at that school. (There are still A of A grades two through five to find space for in our district, so watch out, Alameda Unified elementary schools). Prop. 39 is a bit like a neighborhood bully muscling in and taking whatever it can. Public district schools simply have to move over, squeeze in and somehow make space, no matter the loss. When Kahn spoke up at a recent board meeting regarding this struggle to maintain Haight’s space and programs, Nora Bullock (the director of A of A’s new charter elementary) leaped to the podium and said, “We will sue you.” With Prop. 39 laws and threats of a lawsuit forcing our school board to capitulate and allow Academy of Alameda or other charters to take space, our district public schools start to look like they need some strong advocacy. Particularly when the A of A board, including Youngblood, refused to give an extension of time to the AUSD board.

Bullying and strong-arm tactics continue as Bara Waters, a paid navy blue satin ballet shoes - full sole or split sole - adult sizes strategic communications consultant for the Community Learning Center Schools charters in Alameda, demands that our elected official resign so that they can place A of A board member Sherice Youngblood in that seat, I suppose we can expect threat of lawsuit if this latest demand isn’t met, Additionally, Waters’ claim that Alameda has “a history of positive and synergistic relationships with its charter schools” is like the claim of a bully who justifies their behavior by saying that the victim doesn’t mind, I believe Barbara Kahn was simply saying, “We mind, we mind.”..

While I can’t quell the fears of those who share those concerns, I can contribute a different perspective. Thanks to Tri Pointe Homes’ and Hello Housing’s collaborative program offering below-market-value homes and down-payment assistance, I just may be one of Alameda Landing’s future residents. Who am I? Aside from being one of those millions of Americans priced out of the housing market without a whiff of savings for a down-payment, I am an Oakland native and 16-year resident of Alameda. I work here, send my child to public school here, volunteer here and, because I don’t own a car or shop online, I spend my hard-earned money here.

You can usually find me in my garden, riding my bike around town, or in the park with my daughter, I also smile at, wave to, talk with, and look out for my neighbors — no matter where they came from, If I move out to the Landing, I’m sure I’ll be surrounded by people just like me who want to raise their families in the kind navy blue satin ballet shoes - full sole or split sole - adult sizes of quiet, safe and friendly community we have here in Alameda, Thank you to our Habanero Gold Sponsors: Mark Sorensen & Tom Squire; Cayenne Silver Sponsors: Bank of Marin & Edward Jones; Jalapeno Bronze Sponsors: H&R Block, Custom Kitchens, Jan Nichols-Franz Piano Studio, Alameda Associates Insurance, Hewitt, Jones and Fitch, Russ and Linda Grant, Harbor Bay Realty, Harry Hartman Insurance, Cheryl Saxton & Denise Gasti & Kari & Alan Thompson..
