The tension among family members doesn’t reflect Joseph’s own background. “I’m from a great family. I have a great relationship with my brother. That’s all great, but it doesn’t make for great material. “My life’s been pretty boring. So I don’t really mine my own personal experiences for my plays. I try to find more interesting stories in situations that tend to be a little more complicated or disturbing or dramatic. There are some writers that want to and need to use their personal experiences — and then there are writers like me, who do the opposite.”.

The play uses humor to leaven intensely dramatic scenes, Joseph says, “That tends to happen naturally for me, I look at this play as a drama, and yet I find that, in some of the more serious moments, you also have the funnier moments, And I find that in life, Comedy goes hand in hand with serious drama.”, Sardelli says, “The humor 1/12 victorian style box with girl ballet shoes hand made by bea dollshouse miniatures - metal is often a way of deflecting the truth of what’s happening, So you’re finding the line, where you’ve hit the truth enough that everyone needs a relief from it.”..

Sardelli feels the play will have a positive impact on the audience. “My hope is that, at the end of the evening, there is a sense of comfort, a satisfaction … and hope. The comfort comes from seeing that we are capable of healing, capable of surviving terrible things, if we do it as a community. I look at the world we’re living in right now and I think, it’s nice to go and sit in a room with other people and be reminded that there’s hope. Joseph says, “I have written plays where some people think that there’s a very happy, hopeful ending — and other people think the opposite. And I find both to be useful interpretations. I don’t try to wrap everything up in a bow. I really like when people argue about a play. I never think that there’s any right or wrong way to interpret it. I hope that it’s provocative. I hope that people are engaged enough that they want to talk about it afterward. Whether they think it’s a happy ending or a sad ending, that’s up to everyone’s own perspective. They have to decide for themselves.”.
