We are down to the last week of Season 19 of “Dancing With the Stars,” and the Four Finalists are the closest grouping I’ve seen in many seasons, Only a total of four points separated the four couples — Bethany Mota and Derek Hough, Janel Parrish and Val Chmerkovskiy, Alfonso Ribeiro and Witney Carson, and Sadie Robertson and Mark Ballas — on last week’s leaderboard, and who knows what the voting viewers did to shake it up, Each couple tonight performed two dances, First, each pair did a style they previously danced and was picked by the judges — Len watercolor ballet/ clipart ballerina girl illustration/tutu dress/pointe shoes/little dancer illustration/rose garden arch/roses Goodman, Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonioli and Julianne Hough — and second, it was time for the highly anticipated freestyle where just about anything was OK on the dance floor, Host Tom Bergeron was at his ad-lib best, and co-host Erin Andrews looked stunning while offering the appropriate amount of jokes or concern..

This was the most fantastic, entertaining, incredible first part of any finale in the past 18 seasons, IMHO. It had it all — great choreography, terrific dancing, outstanding creativity. I was thoroughly entertained for the entire two hours, with the possible exception of the “half-time” show of a dance bit from the new contemporary movie version of “Annie” that is opening soon. Great young dancers but the show’s high level took a slight dip at that point. In fact, the best part was the end when host Tom Bergeron began bouncing on one of the beds in the set, and encouraged the others to join in.

The Judge’s Pick dances were all good, but some were better than others, And all of the spectacular freestyle dances received a perfect score of 40 out of 40! But someone had to be eliminated after last week’s votes by viewers and judges, Derek Hough won’t be taking home another Mirror Ball — Bethany Mota and Derek were sent home, After Alfonso and Sadie and their partners were declared safe watercolor ballet/ clipart ballerina girl illustration/tutu dress/pointe shoes/little dancer illustration/rose garden arch/roses and in the Final Three, it was down to Bethany and Janel, who was close to tears during the entire segment, After Tom said she and Val were safe, she buried her face in Val’s shirt for a long time..

Erin asked Bethany who she has become during the season, and Bethany replied, “I’ve discovered things about myself, things I didn’t think I could do.” When Erin pressed her on what, she said, “I didn’t think I would be this far. I didn’t think I would get past Week 2.”Tom told Bethany and Derek that their dance about anti-bullying was one of his all-time favorites, and then asked Derek about his partnership. “I am so proud of her. This has been an incredible season. I’m so proud to be a part of a show that celebrates a very difficult, artistic art-form, like dance,” and added, “Bethany is an amazing role model.”.

Looking back at the show, Bethany and Derek were first up to do their Judge’s Pick: a jive picked by Bruno, It was a had a few problems, including one by the production team, and it frankly wasn’t my favorite, Bethany seemed a little nervous and really didn’t hit some of the kicks and flicks sharply, Len watercolor ballet/ clipart ballerina girl illustration/tutu dress/pointe shoes/little dancer illustration/rose garden arch/roses though it was a great improvement over Week 1, and Carrie Ann agreed, Their scores were all 9s for 36 out of 40, The pair’s freestyle was meant to show how much Bethany has grown from a timid teen to a leader and role model, and it succeeded, The judges poured on the compliments, from Julianne’s “couldn’t have done a better job,” to “You are a fighter,” from Carrie Ann..

Sadie and Mark re-created their “Duck Dynasty” hunter and bird samba, the dance that Len picked for them since he was gone that week and missed the dance. Julianne summed up the judges’ opinion: “I loved it the first time — and liked it even better tonight!” Len said, “It was a quack attack. Just what I like.” They received two 10s and two 9s for a 38. Their freestyle was outrageous! The dancers were the characters in a Super Mario Brothers game, and with all the props, Tom said it was “like being in Tommy Chong’s brain.” It was fantastic and Sadie did a great job with all the creative choreography. Carrie Ann said the dance will be in the Freestyle Hall of Fame and Len agreed that it was a freestyle that he would never forget.

Janel and Val took on the samba, the dance picked by Julianne, She said that in Week 1, it needed more connection, more passion, and boy, did they remedy that situation, It was fast and furious, sexy and sultry, And I noticed that both Janel and Val were taped up for injuries during rehearsal, Carrie Ann said Janel was a “warrior dancer,” and she “kicked the dance’s booty.” They really improved over their first go at the samba when they had just met, and were rewarded with a 10 and three 9s for 37, As for their freestyle, it was totally different watercolor ballet/ clipart ballerina girl illustration/tutu dress/pointe shoes/little dancer illustration/rose garden arch/roses that the first two pairs’ — it was just the two of them, no extra dancers, and it was romantic and sensual and they both just seemed to glow, There were dramatic lifts and turns and it was so intimate, Bruno called it, “the visualization of a love poem.” It was beautiful..
