“We had a lot of people watching,” the personable Roman said of the shoot. “It was hard to keep the excited dogs out of the frame.” (Visit the Rockaway-filmed piece at: http://youtu.be/ScEWqwUlU4s.). Originally from Heiden, Switzerland, at age 18, Roman moved to Los Angeles. “I taught children’s ballet and German as part of an internship program through my college in Switzerland,” Roman said. “While here, I realized my chance to change my major from psychology and childhood development to dance.”.

Roman received a scholarship to California State University, Long Beach (CSULB), and has lived lilac satin flower girl shoe, easter lavender toddler baby ballet slipper, toddler wedding shoe, satin ballet slipper dance shoe in the States since (Los Angeles, New York and San Francisco), Two years ago she and her husband bought a house in Rockaway, “It’s the best neighborhood in the Bay Area,” Roman said, “My commute to San Francisco is short and most importantly, we can walk to the ocean in 10 minutes, We are very happy here.”, When Roman was 4 she saw a dance film, “It sold me on dance for life,” the dancer noted, —I didn’t realize dance could be a career until I moved to the United States and got a scholarship.”..

Roman received her BFA in Dance from CSULB and then studied at the Alvin Alley American Dance Theater in New York City where she received a certificate in Horton pedagogy. The Horton Technique is athletic and expressive and designed to “correct and improve a dancer’s physical limitations so that they might pursue any form of dance.”. Three times a week, Roman teaches intermediate Horton Technique out of the Alonzo King Lines Dance Center in San Francisco. She also teaches beginners workshops. (Students range in age from 17 to 67.) Through her critically-acclaimed Copious Dance Theater, Roman choreographs one to three pieces a year. Her Dance Theater has performed at Z Space, Cowell Theater, North Bay Dance Festival and Dance Mission.

Several years back, a producer in San Jose asked Roman if she would consider choreographing the 12th-century written “Conference of the Birds.” A poem of freedom, it follows 30 birds on a mystical, arduous journey in search of a king who can make right all the wrongs in their world, They are led by a hoopoe, an allegory of a Sufi master, The 4,500-line poem, with its many lilac satin flower girl shoe, easter lavender toddler baby ballet slipper, toddler wedding shoe, satin ballet slipper dance shoe translations, has not been choreographed until now by any Western dance company, “What appealed the most to me is that these were birds experiencing human things, desires and troubles,” the dancer said..

In Roman’s “Conference of the Birds” nine dancers, including Roman, are transformed into a different bird and character which include: the gothic owl, the mean hawk, the naïve duck, and the smart hoopoe. “We studied each bird closely — how they eat, walk, fly, fight and their mating dances,” Roman said. “Each dancer stays true to their bird’s movements.”. The costuming and accessories for “Conference of the Birds” are beautiful high fashion, “striking that balance between the symbolism of the birds and the humanity of the dancers.” The choreographer is also designing and constructing the costumes.

“Phew,” Roman laughed, “What you see in the trailer is just something I improvised for the day of the shoot since the actual costumes are not ready yet.”, The event will also showcase: a new work by renowned guest choreographer Erik Wagner entitled “Glass Slippers;” an energetic piece from Roman’s Horton Technique students entitled “Bleuphoria;” and a reprise of the 2009 hit, “Taka.” The production is lilac satin flower girl shoe, easter lavender toddler baby ballet slipper, toddler wedding shoe, satin ballet slipper dance shoe sponsored by Dancers Group and the United Swiss Societies of Northern California, Inc..
