There really wasn’t a lowlight for me. I thought all of the couples were really involved emotionally with their dances and put an extra effort into each one. And some, like the “Three’s Company” tribute to John Ritter by Suzanne Somers and Tony Dovolani, were just a lot of fun. Josie Mary Tapella came from an Italian immigrant family, while Paul Bremis hailed from Croatian immigrant stock; his family’s original last name, Birimisa, was changed at Ellis Island, says their daughter Janice Bremis. Josie and Paul went to different high schools, but both were regulars at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, where they also were confirmed. Josie also remembers seeing Paul play basketball for Watsonville High School. Still, they didn’t formally meet until after they graduated and Paul had briefly served in the Navy at the end of World War II.

On a recent outing to Original Joe’s in San Jose, Paul enjoyed his favorite ravioli, and Josie feasted on chicken cacciatore.
